Bespoke Bone China Mugs
We believe we offer you the most complete and the most advanced mug design service in our Industry. In this section of our Showroom website, we detail numerous examples of bespoke bone china mugs that we have manufactured specially for our Customers, not merely to whet your appetite for such product for yourselves, but to hopefully sow seeds in your mind as to what you can ask us to do exclusively for you, and how to go about it.
Fund-raising mugs, business promotional mugs, helping you celebrate that special Anniversary, coffee mugs for your restaurant, decorative mugs for your shop sales - whatever it is that you are seeking to do, we can help. All items can be personalised to suit your needs. For personalised gift mugs, you may require that each mug bears each individual's name, or perhaps you'd like them produced as a strictly limited edition, perhaps even with each item individually numbered - all these things are possible - just ask . . .
Our minimum order quantity is ONE. Almost all our mug decoration is via manual application of precision-printed ceramic decals (waterslide transfers) which we print digitally or by silk-screen, whichever method is best suited to the artwork. We also have a couple of direct silk-screen printing machines that we use occasionally. All our decorating is then followed by firing at above 800°C for everlasting permanence and outstanding dish-washer resistance.
If you're an Artist or Graphics Designer yourself (not necessarily an expert) then we can produce your own design on bone china mugs. Irrespective of the quantity you require, and of whether you intend them to be for personal use, or for business promotion, fund-raising, shop sales, commemorative or purely functional, we will decorate every piece to the highest pottery industry decoration standards. (Please note - we do not apply any of our decorations by dye-sublimation or any other non-ceramic technique.)
Your decoration will pass through our Repro team to our Printing Department for printing as ceramic transfers or decals. We make fullest use of the available decorating area, and we can print the decals with any number of colours via our own precision silk-screen techniques which we have developed continuously over more than 35 years, or with our tightly-technically-controlled digital printing techniques, as we consider most appropriate for your artwork. All our decoration firing is carried out in one of our electric kilns on-site here in Cornwall at well over 800°Centigrade. All our product is dishwasher-safe, and unless gold or platinum metals form part of the decoration, they are perfectly microwave-safe too.
Please refer to the 'How we do it - together' page for advice on how to submit your design to us.
We produced the complete artwork for this beautiful annual Trophy, including John's pencil sketch of the thatched cottages, according to Customer's instructions. Every year we change the background to a new colour, which adds greatly to the competition for them!!!
For the majority of the day-by-day projects that we tackle, our Customers send in most but not all of the components of the final artwork. This is where we can help. It may be just simple re-positioning to fit the chosen Mug shape that is required, but more often we receive various images, requests and instructions which we follow to complete the artwork to Customer's approval. It's usually best to give us a call to discuss your needs - please do so, we're here to help. We can then ensure that together we produce just what you want, a product of which we can both be proud, which is fully practical from our manufacturing viewpoint, and which is beautiful with maximised viability for you.

We work with our Customers to produce their designs. Whatever the format of your artwork, send it to us in the best possible quality you can, by email or post. If in any doubt, or if you need any help, do give us a call and we'll talk you through whatever is necessary . . .
As you will see in many of the examples on our pages here, we frequently undertake quite complex artworks. Some that are constructed on their Macs or PCs by experienced professional Graphics Artists are complete and nominally 'camera-ready', but at least 50% of our Customers submit artwork or artwork components with or without a specification for us to complete. But irrespective of whether they are apparently 'camera-ready' or not, ceramic printing is not so simple that we can produce our decals with just a few clicks on a mouse. In all cases, our first step is to complete the construction within our template for the chosen Mug, which we usually then send as a visual to Customer to check that we're on the right track. Producing a fully fired pre-production sample is expensive, so such a visual, possibly with a tweak or two based on the criticism that we receive back from Customer, is invariably sufficient. In the case of the Agapanthus design for Eden Project shown here, we actually submitted fired colour swatches for approval before we commenced our precision screen-printing. The final result was outstanding - see Testamonial that we received following delivery . . .
Of the 30-40 different mug shapes that we use, the ones we use most frequently are shown below. Of these, we find the most popular to be the Balmoral, Lyric, Castle and Topaz. If you scroll on down, you'll find that we list their dimensions and the sizes of our design templates so that you can draft up a rough sketch of your desired layout, or if you wish you can put together your own complete design to submit to us. Please work to these templates as your working maximum unless we advise you otherwise.

Points to bear in mind when designing:
1. The Face of the mug is to the RIGHT of your rectangle template, and the Back is to the LEFT.
2. No pottery mugs are perfectly cylindrical (otherwise they wouldn't drop out of the moulds) so please talk with us if your design requires very exact dimensional accuracy, particularly if you include unbroken straight lines at top or bottom. We will usually be able to give you a high-accuracy template, or we can make any essential conversion for you. Maybe we might even try to persuade you to adopt an approach which is more practical from our point of view . . . !!!!!! We're friendly folk . . .
3. Likewise, please let us know if you wish to use Rio, Emerald, King, Duchess, Marquee or RL shapes so that we can provide you with the most suitable template for your particular design.
